Torch War or also called torches , is one of the traditional ceremony owned by the community of Jepara Regency, especially Tegalsambi Village, Annual District, Jepara Regency. [1] The Torch War is routinely held every Monday Pahing, Tuesday night Pon on the Moon Dzulhijjah in the Javanese or Arabic calendar. [2]


Torch specifications 

The torch at this traditional ceremony is a roll or bundle of 2 (two) or 3 (three) coconut barks that have been dried and the inside is filled with dried banana leaves. The torches that are available are lit together to be used as a means of attacking each other so that there are frequent torch clashes that can result in large flames, which give rise to the name of the Torch War. [3]

Legend of Ki Gemblong 

The ceremony is based on the legend of Ki Gemblong believed by Kyai Babadan to care for and herd her herds.However, because terlena with fish and shrimp in the river, the cattle are forgotten so sick or die. Kyai Babadan who did not accept the negligence of Ki Gemblong, hit Ki Gemblong with a torch from coconut litter. As a result he uses a similar torch to defend himself. Unexpectedly, a second torch impact spreading fire in a haystack next to the cage. The cattle that initially became ill suddenly healed. [4]
