Keraton Surakarta ( Javanese : Karaton Surakarta Hadiningrat ) is the official palace of Surakarta Kasunanan located in Surakarta City, Central Java . This palace was founded by Susuhunan Pakubuwana II in 1744 as a substitute of the Palace / Palace Kartasura ravaged by Chinatown Gazer 1743 .
Although the Surakarta Kasunanan has officially become part of the Republic of Indonesia since 1945 , this palace complex is still functioning as a residence of Sri Sunan and his court house which still runs the royal tradition to this day. This palace is now also one of the main tourist attraction in the city of Surakarta . Part of the palace complex is a museum that stores various collections of the kasunanan, including various gifts from European kings, replica of palace heirlooms, and gamelan . In terms of building, this palace is an example of the best traditional Javanese palace architecture.
History
Kartasura Palace building that has been destroyed and considered "polluted". Susuhunan Pakubuwana II then ordered Tumenggung Hanggawangsa with Tumenggung Mangkuyudha, and the commander of Dutch troops, JAB van Hohendorff, to find the location of the new capital / palace . For that built a new palace is 20 km to the southeast of Kartasura, precisely in the village of Sala, not far from Bengawan Solo . For the construction of this palace, Susuhunan Pakubuwana II bought the land for the selaksa gold pieces given to Akuwu (lurah) Sala Village known as Ki Gede Sala. When the palace was built, Ki Gede Sala died and was buried in the palace area.The impenetrable Sultanate of Mataram in the aftermath of the Trunajaya revolt in 1677 its capital by Susuhunan Amangkurat II was moved to Kartasura . At the time of Susuhunan Pakubuwana II was in office, Mataram was raided by the Chinese rebellion which had the support of the Javanese anti- VOC in 1742 , and the Mataram centered at Kartasura was in disarray. The city of Kartasura was recaptured thanks to the help of Duke Cakraningrat IV , the West Madura ruler who was an ally of the VOC, but the situation has been severely damaged. Susuhunan Pakubuwana II who fled to Ponorogo , then decided to build a new palace in the village of Sala as the new capital of Mataram.
After the royal palace was completed, the name of Sala Village was later changed to Surakarta Hadiningrat . The palace was also a silent witness to the transfer of sovereignty of the Sultanate of Mataram by Susuhunan Pakubuwana II to the VOC in 1749 . After the 1755 Giyanti Agreement , the palace was later made an official palace for Kasunanan Surakarta .
