Alas Purwo National Park ( TN Alas Purwo ) is a national park located in District Tegaldlimo and DistrictPurwoharjo , Banyuwangi , East Java , Indonesia . Geographically located on the southeastern tip of Java Islandthe southern coastline is between 8 ° 26'45 "-8 ° 47'00" LS and 114 ° 20'16 "-114 ° 36'00" BT .

Physical Condition

TN Alas Purwo with an area of ​​43,420 ha consists of several zoning, namely:
  • Core Zone (Sanctuary zone) of 17,200 ha
  • Wilderness zone (Wilderness zone) of 24,767 ha
  • Intensive use zone of 250 ha
  • Buffer zone of 1,203 ha.
Average rainfall of 1000 - 1500 mm per year with temperature 22 ° -31 ° C, and air humidity 40-85%. The area of ​​West Alas Purwo TN receives higher rainfall compared to the East. Under ordinary circumstances, the season in TN Alas Purwo from April to October is dry season and October to April is the rainy season.
In general, Alas Purwo National Park has flat topography, light wavy to the west with the highest peak of Lingga Manis Mountain (322 mdpl).
The state of the soil is almost entirely the type of sandy clay and a small part of clay. River in Alas Purwo National Park is generally shallow and short. River that flows throughout the year is only found in the western part of TN namely Segoro Son River and Sunglon Ombo. There are many springs in the area of ​​Gunung Kuncur, Gunung Kunci, Goa Basori, and Sendang Srengenge.

In general, forest type in Alas Purwo National Park is lowland rain forest. Bamboo forest is the dominant formation, ± 40% of the total forest area. To date there have been recorded at least 584 plant species consisting of grass, herbaceous, bush, liana, and tree.
Based on their ecosystem type, the forests of Alas Purwo National Park can be grouped into bamboo forests, coastal forests, mangrove forests, plantations, natural forests, and grazing areas (Feeding Ground).
The diversity of fauna species in TN Alas Purwo area can be divided into 4 classes namely Mammals, Aves, Pisces and Reptilia. 31 species of mammals are: Bull (Bos javanicus), Deer (Cervus timorensis), Ajag (Cuon alpinus), Pig Forest (Sus scrofa), Kijang (Muntiacus muntjak), Leopard (Panthera pardus), Lutung (Trachypithecus auratus), Gray Monkeys (Macaca fascicularis), and Lizard (Varanus salvator).
Birds that have been identified amounted to 236 species consisting of land birds and water birds, some of which are migratory birds that have been identified amounted to 39 species. Bird species that are easily seen include: Chicken Forest (Gallus gallus), Kangkareng (Antracoceros coronatus), Rangkok (Buceros undulatus), Peacock (Pavo muticus) and Cekakak Java (Halcyon cyanoventris). As for reptiles have been identified as many as 20 species.

Wayang kulit  is a traditional  puppet-shadow play  found in the culture of  Java ,  Bali , and  Lombok ,  Indonesia .
