DEMAK GREAT MOSQUE

Demak Great Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Indonesia . The mosque is located in Kauman Village, BintoroVillage, Demak District, Demak District , Central Java .

History

This mosque is believed to be a gathering place for the scholars (wali) who spread Islam in the land of Java called Walisongo . The founder of this mosque is thought to be Raden Patah , the first king of the Demak Sultanate around the 15th century AD.
Raden Patah along with Wali Songo founded this charismatic mosque by giving a similar picture. This is a candra sengkala memet , with the meaning of Sarira Sunyi Kiblating Gusti meaning 1401 Saka. The bulus image consists of the head which means the number 1 (one), 4 feet means the number 4 (four), the body of the bulus means the number 0 (zero), the tail bulus means the number 1 (one). From this symbol it is estimated that the Great Mosque of Demak stood in 1401 Saka. The mosque was founded on the 1st Shofar.

Architecture

This mosque has master buildings and porch. The main building has four main pillars called saka guru . One of the main pillars is said to have come from pieces of wood, so named saka tatal . The porch is an open structure. The roof is pyramid- shaped with eight pillars called Saka Majapahit . The mosque's pyramid roof consists of three parts that describe; (1) Faith, (2) Islam, and (3) Ihsan. In this mosque there is also "Bledeg Door", containing candra sengkala , which can be read Naga Mulat Salira Wani , with meaning 1388 Saka or 1466 AD, or 887 H.
In the location of the Great Mosque of Demak complex, there are several tombs of the kings of the Sultanate of Demakincluding among them Sultan Fattah who was the first king of demak and his servants. In this complex there is also Museum of Great Mosque of Demak , which contains various things about the history of the Great Mosque of Demak.
Demak Grand Mosque was nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 .
